Want New Windows? You Have Two Options

Baby it's cold outside. And right about now, you might be thinking about ways to keep more of that heat inside your home.

New windows might be the way to go, but the first thing you should do is get an energy audit. You could greatly improve the efficiency of your house by seeing where the big problems are. Blowing insulation into the walls and adding a layer of the pink stuff to the attic could greatly improve your home's ability to keep in the heat.

If you want new windows, here are your options:

Option 1, Partial Replacement: With a partial replacement, we remove the "guts" of the window as well as the outside trim. We don't remove the frame, sill or the trim on the inside. Before replacing the new window, which is typically made from vinyl or fiberglass, we add insulation and then wrap the trim on the outside in aluminum for a carefree, low-maintenance finish.

Option 2, Full Replacement: With a full replacement, we remove everything: the window, the frame, the sill, the inside and outside trim and replace it all. Chose this option if you prefer the look of an all-wood window or if you own an older home and the wood frame is rotted. This option is a little more costly but it gives you a higher R-value (better insulated) and some people prefer the look better than vinyl or aluminum-wrapped exterior trim.

In my opinion, there are a lot of junk replacements windows out there and only a handful of quality products. Don't base your purchase on price alone. You'll get what you paid for.
